From April 9 onward, video transmission and recording system from Bosch Security Systems will be used at Nuremberg Zoo to transmit TV-quality live images of the baby polar bear Flocke to a pair of 46-inch large-format screens. One of the screens is positioned outside the enclosure to make waiting more bearable for visitors. Even if you are not all that near to Flocke, you can see her in the open-air enclosure, which covers around 1200 square meters. The second screen has been incorporated into the zoo's "Waldschenke" catering outlet, making it even more pleasant to pass the time of day in the beer garden. The images are transmitted to this screen via a video transmission path installed by Bosch.

Two Bosch AutoDome cameras with 26x optical zoom, day-night changeover and PTZ (pan/tilt/zoom) function ensure outstanding image quality. The Autotrack function automatically controls the high-tech camera, unobtrusively following baby Flocke's every move.

Visitors can even marvel at Flocke, who is just four months old, when she is sleeping thanks to a Dibos video recording unit from Bosch. The unit continuously records images and stores them in its 750-GB memory to be transmitted on the screens during times when the crowd favorite is resting. This means that Flocke is always on hand to greet her guests. In peak times, the zoo can expect between 20,000 and 25,000 visitors in a single day.

The Bosch video system is helping Nuremberg Zoo to meet the huge public demand to catch a glimpse of Flocke, and the company is simultaneously showcasing the merits of its high-performance video systems to a broad public.
